不思議 (Fushigi) – mysterious, strange, enchanting in a way that invites curiosity.

This film blends physical storytelling, absurdist humor, and surreal movement, creating a genre-defying experience that captivates both niche performance enthusiasts and general audiences alike. Pulling inspiration from slapstick, silent film, mime, and acrobatic movement all wrapped in a visually magnificent and tightly choreographed world.

The Story

When a tiny alien planet crash-lands on a farm somewhere on the Olympic Peninsula, its sole survivors —two curious organisms — must adapt to survive.

Taking human form, Fushigi sets out on a quest to find a way to fix their shattered world.

Meanwhile, Warty, who takes the form of an AI smart watch strapped to Fushigi’s wrist, is beguiled by the power of the internet and begins to develop bigger, more sinister plans.

As these two interstellar companions bumble through their first day on earth, we are carried along on a surreal and absurd adventure that examines the quandary of holding onto the uncorrupted creative power of human consciousness in a rapidly tech-dependent world.

The fusion of high-level physical performance with absurdist and satirical cinematic storytelling is a genre-defying experience and a rare, untapped niche with the potential to grow in multiple directions.

New Genre

GROWTH

Potential

Fushigi is both, standalone and a pilot - a short film that can grow into a larger episodic series or feature film, where the world and its characters can evolve into something more ambitious.

The short length and multifaceted appeal of this film makes it uniquely suited to widespread exposure.

  • Fushigi’s short length and rare bond of genres makes it uniquely appealing to the short form category in film festival circuits, showcasing the concept’s potential to critics, industry professionals, and potential investors.

  • The skit-based structure of the film makes it specially suited to a campaign of viral clips: short-form content pulled from the project to generate online buzz and widespread following.

A Visually Rich,
Locally Grounded Setting

The Olympic Peninsula rugged coastlines, dense forests, quirky towns, and surreal natural beauty provide the perfect backdrop for the playful, heightened reality this project thrives on.

The landscape itself becomes a character in the film. By filming on location, the project will shine a spotlight on the unique charm and character of the region, offering viewers an unusual and stylized lens through which to see the Peninsula.

Economic & Artistic Impact

This production will create opportunities for local talent-including filmmakers, performers, craftspeople, musicians, and small businesses.

With each phase of the project there are opportunities to hire local artists and workers , injecting funding directly into the creative economy.

The
BIGGER
Picture

This project is part of a broader vision to establish a sustainable creative presence on the Peninsula. By laying the groundwork now-with connections, collaborators, and momentum-it creates a foundation for future projects: short films, workshops, and production hub.

The team aims to not just make a film, but to plant the seeds of an artistic ecosystem-where local talent have more access to career building opportunities, and the Peninsula becomes known as a fertile ground for bold, imaginative storytelling.

By investing in this project, funders are also investing in a region with immense untaped creative potential, helping fuel a movement that merges art, community, and economic vitality in a truly original way.

Tomoki
Sage

Writer, Performer, Director

Tomoki Sage is no stranger to high-level physical performance, comedy, and innovative storytelling. Having trained and performed with NANDA and The Flying Karamazov Brothers, he has spent years mastering the art of movement-based storytelling, blending acrobatics, stage combat, juggling, clowning, and music into a seamless, high-energy performance style. Beyond live performance, Tomoki has experience in music and video production, giving him a deep understanding of how to translate kinetic energy to the screen. His background in multimedia storytelling and hands-on production makes him uniquely suited to craft something that is both visually striking and deeply entertaining. His past work with NANDA—a group known for its genre-defying performances combining martial arts, slapstick, and parkour—demonstrates his ability to push physicality to its limits while keeping audiences engaged through humor and spectacle. The experience gained from working with The Flying Karamazov Brothers, a legendary troupe known for its daring juggling, absurdist humor, and theatrical precision, has further refined his skills in timing, misdirection, and audience engagement. With a deep well of experience, an eye for cinematic movement, and a passion for storytelling through action, Tomoki is the ideal person to bring this bold, visually unique, and wildly entertaining project to life.

Allison
Barrett

Writer, Producer

Allison Barrett is a multimedia storyteller, independent journalist, and filmmaker whose fictional work blurs the line between realism and imagination. Though rooted in documentary filmmaking, her transition into narrative storytelling brings the same sharp eye for social commentary and deeply human moments that define her nonfiction work. She’s developed a strong creative shorthand with collaborator Tomoki Sage through a series of projects that marry visual precision with playful, risk-taking storytelling. Together, they thrive in spaces where genre bends, rules are broken, and meaning hides in the margins. Allison brings a wide-ranging set of production skills to every project, shaped not just by her media background but also by her experience in commercial fishing and construction. That unlikely combo brings a unique, grounded energy to her work—equal parts scrappy, resourceful, and fearless. Fueled by a relentless curiosity and unbridled creativity, Allison’s narrative work explores the emotional undercurrents of our time through fictional worlds that reflect real truths.

With a background in physical theater and a robust history performing with both NANDA and The Flying Karamazov Brothers, Chen brings a unique perspective to storytelling—one that is rooted in rhythm, and physical comedy. Chen has a natural gift for infusing absurd scenarios with intelligence. His work is characterized by a strong sense of timing, character contrast, and unexpected turns. Chen’s contributions to the writing team include not only a quick mind for structure and pacing, but also an instinct for how humor and absurdity can coexist in surreal, visually driven stories. His ability to translate physicality into narrative—without losing cleverness or depth—makes him an indispensable voice in shaping this project's unique tone.
