VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Roles & Descriptions

Welcome Greeters

Main Entrance

4 positions

Welcome Greeters at the main entrance are the first friendly faces attendees meet. Volunteers will greet guests, take donations, and hand out programs/maps. Some use of the Square card reader is required for donation processing. This position can get busy during rushes—especially when crowds move between the circus and the rest of the event.

Welcome Greeter

Cotton Building

1 position

This Welcome Greeter is stationed inside the Cotton Building, welcoming everyone who enters to make lanterns. Duties include taking donations, using the Square card reader, handing out programs/maps, and helping set the friendly tone for the craft area. This space gets lively, especially with families and groups coming in together.

Welcome Greeters

Stage Entrance

4 Positions

This Welcome Greeter is placed at a quieter, less active entrance near the stage area. Volunteers will welcome attendees into the event, collect donations, use the Square card reader, and hand out wristbands and programs/maps. This is a good fit for volunteers who want a more steady-paced role while still interacting warmly with guests.

Circus Ushers

American Legion Hall

3 Positions

Circus Ushers help audience members find seats efficiently to ensure each show is filled. Volunteers should be comfortable moving around, guiding groups, and managing eager circus-goers with friendliness and confidence. There are two 45-minute shows at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, with a lot of movement and crowd management before each

TPA Engagement Booth

TPA HQ Booth

2 Positions

Support Ana at the TPA volunteer check-in and merchandise booth. This role may involve greeting volunteers, answering basic questions, helping with merch sales, and keeping the booth organized.

Box Office Ticket Taker

American Legion Hall

2 Positions

Ticket Takers will sell tickets, assist attendees picking up pre-purchased tickets via will call, and answer simple event questions. Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with the public and handling simple transactions.

Museum Craft Support

Historical Museum

2 Positions

Assist guests with the “Message in a Bottle” craft activity inside the Jefferson County Historical Society building. This craft involves small pieces and fine motor skills — a note volunteers may want to consider when choosing this role. Volunteers will guide participants, restock supplies, and keep the space welcoming.

Tear Down & Clean Up

Event Venue

2 Positions

Help with breaking down craft stations, folding tables, packing supplies, and taking down tents as the event concludes. This is a great fit for volunteers who don’t mind a bit of physical activity and want a quick, high-impact shift.

Fire work clean up

Memorial Field

4 Positions

Join the crew at Memorial Field the morning after the celebration to clean up fireworks debris. Volunteers should be prepared for light physical activity and outdoor conditions. A great way to start the new year with community spirit!

Lantern Making
Craft Support

Cotton Building

 FILLED

Help attendees build and decorate their lanterns using this year’s extraterrestrial theme! This is a high-energy environment with lots of kids, families, and creative activity. Volunteers will restock supplies, offer simple guidance, and keep the table areas flowing safely and smoothly.

Fire Tenders

Street

2 Positions

Help keep our two community firepits safe and burning throughout the event. Fire Tenders ensure the fires stay lit, monitor for safety, and keep an eye on guests using the space. While participants usually add their own logs, the Fire Department requires a designated person to oversee each pit. This role is all about staying attentive, keeping the area safe, and maintaining a warm, welcoming space for everyone.
